The lithosphere is a slow-moving, by human standards, system that is responsible for all geologic activity on our planet. This activity makes our planet unique in the solar system in that the other terrestrial planets no longer have this level of activity (Venus) or any at all (Mars and Mercury).
The Pelagic Zones of the Ocean
The ocean a vast environment, with most ocean water being found in the unlit depths where life is assumed to not be abundant. However, the deeper pelagic zones are actually highly productive environments, contrary to what one might assume given the lightless nature of the deep-sea environment.
